Draft Assistant Program Documentation Page 1
========================================================================
*****Program Description*****
Draft Assistant will help you to organize and run your draft by assign-
ing the draft order, randomly assign team numbers, view/modify draft
order, print draft work sheets, keep track of draft picks during the
draft, and automatically update team rosters in Fantasy Football
Assistant.
After reading the documentation, the best way to learn how to use Draft
Assistant is to run it and try the various options prior to your actual
draft. Don't worry about messing anything up when you try it, you can
always start over again by using the Reset For New Draft function (which
is what you will want to do when you are ready to do the actual draft).
The following is a list of the files and description of those files for
Draft Assistant:
FFADRAFT.DOC-----Draft Assistant manual.
FFADRAFT.EXE-----Executable program.
FFADRAFT.HLP-----On-line help text.
FFADRAFT.DAT-----Data file (automatically created).
On-line help is available by pressing [F1]. The help text for the
current input field will be displayed. Press [Esc] to exit help.
NOTE 1: Prior to executing Draft Assistant, you must first set up League
Options in FFA and then use Team Maintenance to enter the names of each
team in the league.
NOTE 2: Even though Draft Assistant will track each team's draft picks,
it is a good idea to have each team write down their picks or have
a secretary write down everybody's picks just in case something should
go wrong (like a power failure, or even (gasp) a program glitch).

*****Menu Selections*****
Select the desired function by highlighting the function and pressing
[ENTER]. This can be done by using the up/down arrow keys or pressing
the first letter of the desired function. If more than one function
starts with the same letter, it may be necessary to press the first
letter multiple times until the function is highlighted.
Setup Draft Information
This function is used to set up the different options your league
uses. Note that this function must be executed before any other
Draft Assistant functions can be executed.
View/Modify Draft Order
Used to view or modify the draft order. After the draft order is
initially assigned in Setup Draft Information, you can modify it to
allow for pre-draft trades, or to enter the draft order manually.
Print Draft Work Sheets
After the draft order is set, use this function to print a sheet for
each owner showing what pick he has in each round. The owner can use
this sheet to write in his draft picks. Commissioner work sheets may
also be printed, showing for each round the draft order.
Start/Resume Draft
Used to record the actual draft picks. This function can be started
and resumed any number of times.
Print Draft Summary
This report will show by round, what players were selected and what
teams drafted them.
Export Draft Picks To FFA
After the draft is completed, use this function to export the draft
picks to FFA, eliminating the need to manually enter each owner's
roster.
Reset For New Draft
Used to reset draft information. This should be used just prior to
running your actual draft if you have run a mock draft with test
information.

*****Setup Draft Information*****
This function is used to set up the different options your league uses
for the draft. Prior to using Draft Assistant, make sure you have set
up the team names for each team in your league with Team Setup.
*** Maximum Number of Draft Rounds ***
Enter a number from 1 to 22 to indicate the number of rounds your league
drafts.
***Allow multiple teams to select the same player?***
Enter [Y] if your league uses the option where more than one fantasy
team can draft the same NFL player. When the draft is being run and this
option is used, then the remaining player list will not remove a player
once he has been selected. Instead, and asterisk (*) will be displayed
between the player's position and NFL team code, indicating that the
player has previously been drafted.
Enter [N] to not allow more than one fantasy team to draft the same NFL
player. During the draft, once a player is selected, then he will be
removed from the remaining player list.
*** Assign Random Team Numbers ***
Enter [Y] to randomly assign new team numbers. This is usually done when
using divisions to make sure the same teams aren't in the same divisions
each year. After you enter [Y], the team names will be adjusted accord-
ingly.
*** Draft Order Method ***
Enter the number of the draft method your league uses. Enter [1] to
randomly assign the first 16 picks (replace 16 with the actual number of
teams in your league) and then reverse the next round. For example, the
team with the first pick in the first round would have the last pick in
the 2nd round. This order would remain the same for the remaining rounds.
Enter [2] to randomly assign the first picks and then keep that order
for the rest of the draft. The team that has the first pick in the draft
would have the first pick in every round.
Enter [3] to randomly assign the first picks and reverse the order for
the 2nd round. For each odd round, the picks would be randomly picked
and the even rounds would reverse the order. This method is typically
the one most used.
Enter [4] to randomly assign every pick for each round.
If your league has determined the draft order some other way, then you
can select one of the methods (it doesn't matter which one) and then use
View/Modify Draft Order to manually adjust the draft order.

*****Setup Draft Information*****
*** Assign Draft Order Now ***
Enter [Y] to have the computer automatically assign the draft picks now.
Enter [N] if not ready to assign the draft picks or if they have already
been assigned.
*** # Of Seconds Between Picks ***
Enter the number of seconds that each owner has to make a pick. A timer
will display time remaining during the draft and the speaker will beep
when the time left reaches 0. Enter 0 to disable the timer feature during
the draft.

========================================================================
*****View/Modify Draft Order*****
This function is used to view the draft order or to adjust the draft
order. Note that you must press [F10] to save any changes that you
make to the draft order.
[F5] can be used to automatically assign all rounds based on the first
round. If you manually enter the draft order, after entering the first
round, press [F5] to assign the remaining rounds. You then have the
option to keep all rounds the same, or to reverse the even rounds.
*** Round # ***
Enter the draft round that you wish to view/modify. Once entered, the
teams and the draft order will be displayed.
*** Team # ***
Enter the team # that has this pick. Note that it is possible to have 1
team with more than 1 pick in a round in order to compensate for trading
of draft picks (ie. team 1 trades it's 3rd round pick for team 2's 2nd
round pick, in which case team 1 would have 2 second round picks and
team 2 would have 2 third round picks), so be careful when making
modifications.
Print Draft Work Sheets
-----------------------
This function will print a work sheet for each team owner, showing what
pick they have in each round. There is also room for the owner to write
down his draft picks.
It will also print a table of the entire draft, showing what teams draft
in what order for each round.
*** Print commissioner work sheets also? ***
If you want to print commissioner work sheets, then enter [Y] else enter
[N]. Commissioner work sheets will print a sheet for each round and the
draft order of the round. The commissioner can use these sheets to
manually enter each draft pick as the draft progresses.

========================================================================
*****Start/Resume Draft*****
This function is used to start or resume the actual draft. The draft
can be interrupted and resumed any number of times by pressing [Esc].
You may need to do this if 2 teams trade draft picks during the draft,
you can suspend the draft, use View/Modify Draft Order, and then resume
the draft. When resuming the draft, you can start right where you left
off, or you can back up to a previous round, but you may not start at a
round and pick that is later than where you left off.
The draft screen will display the current round and pick, the team name
and number that is picking, the team's roster, who's on deck (next to
draft), and the team number and player name of the last pick. The
number of players at each position that have currently been drafted
for the team will be displayed, along with what has been entered as a
legal lineup. If the current team has satisified the legal lineup
requirement for a certain postion, then that position will be marked
with a "*" in front of the postion name. This makes it easy to identify
which positions still need to be drafted for a legal lineup.
All the undrafted players are displayed in a selection window (names will
come from the NFLRSTR.TXT file). When a player is drafted, highlight the
player's name and press [ENTER]. The player will be transferred from the
undrafted list to the team's roster. If not using the option for multiple
teams to select the same player, the selected player will be removed
from the remaining player list. If you are using the multiple team option,
then the player will remain in the remaining player list, but there will
be an asterisk (*) displayed between the player's position and NFL team
code to indicate that the player has previously been selected by some
other fantasy team. While the remaining player list is displayed, there
are several options available by pressing certain function keys. If the
player the current fantasy team owner drafts does not appear in the
window, press [F2] to perform a manual entry. Press [F3] to display the
list by player position, [F4] to display the list by NFL team, or [F5]
to display a list of drafted players. Press [F10] to backup and remove
the last draft pick. Note that you can only go back 1 draft pick.
TIP: If during the draft you suddenly discover that you have gotten out
of sync with the actual draft order (can happen if you accidentally hold
the [ENTER] key down too long when selecting a player), you can recover
by exiting the draft (making sure you save the draft information) and
then resume the draft by entering the round and pick where it was last
correct. Then enter the correct draft picks until you are caught up with
the actual draft.

========================================================================
*****Start/Resume Draft*****
When displaying the list of drafted players, press [ENTER] or [Esc] to
redisplay the undrafted players. Press [F2] to sort list by name, [F3]
to sort list by position, [F4] to sort by NFL team, or [F5] to sort by
fantasy team.
If a maximum time between picks has been set up, then the upper right
corner of the screen will display the time remaining. This can be manually
started/stopped by pressing [F6], or reset by pressing [F7]. When this
counter reaches 0, a warning message will be displayed and then you have
to option whether to give the owner more time to make a selection or to
skip that owner. If you skip the owner, his draft pick will be moved to
the END of the CURRENT round and all other owners will be moved up one
pick. Each time you select to skip an owner, that owner will be moved to
the end of the round. Note that each round must be completed before going
on to the next round. In other words, you can't skip the last owner in
the round. If you try to do this, the same owner will be displayed and
you have to allow that owner to make a selection before going on to the
next round. Also note that if you abort the draft during a round where
an owner was skipped and save the current draft selections, when you
restart the draft it will restart at the beginning of that round.
As stated before, the best way to see how this works is to try it out
a few times before you do your actual draft. Test all the different
options to see what the program will do. Merely perform the Reset For
New Draft when you are ready for the real draft.

*****Export Draft Picks To FFA*****
This function is used to export each team's draft picks to FFA,
eliminating the need to use Team Setup to enter each team's roster.
If you have not completed the draft and you select this function, you
will be asked if you really wish to export at this time. If you do,
enter [Y], else enter [N]. If you enter [Y], only the picks that
have been completed will be exported.
*****Reset For New Draft*****
Use this function to reset draft information. This should be used just
prior to running your actual draft if you have run a mock draft with
test information.
